Supersuckers - Get It Together

Mid-Fi

The self-proclaimed greatest rock ’n’ roll band in the world is finally back. While it seemed as though The Supersuckers had given up putting out full-length records after a half-decade of nothing more than EPs and live albums, they’ve gotten their shit figured out with the aptly named Get It Together. The end result, however, is a bit of a double-edged sword. New drummer Scott Churilla (formerly of the Reverend Horton Heat) infuses great backbone and power into these dozen tracks, and it’s great to hear singer and bassist Eddie Spaghetti dole out witty lyrics and spin excruciatingly catchy melodies. Yet as time goes on, the Suckers seem to be veering further and further away from the enthusiastic, balls-out fury of efforts such as Sacrilicious and The Evil Powers of Rock ’n’ Roll in favour of a swaggering, countrified twang. Get It Together is incredibly laid-back. Yes, it’s still 10 times better than most bands could ever muster, and still features great songwriting and spotless performances, but the more Spaghetti and crew mature, the less they tend to rock and the more they just roll along.
