Generally revered as frontwoman for The Creepshow, Sarah “Sin” Blackwood's true day job has always been that of a countrified singer-songwriter, not leading an international psychobilly outfit. Sure, she does a great job at wailing over slap-’n'-pop bass lines and jangly guitars, but when experiencing her rich depth, sublime intricacy and overall intense spirit on her sophomore full-length, Wasting Time, one almost wonders why this golden-locked maven would do anything but country. A bold foray replete with twangy crooning, bustling acoustic instruments and dynamic confidence, the relationship between gospel-ish choruses, Hillbilly-esque rhythms and old-school country verses is stunning. Overall, the laid-back atmosphere and veiled craftiness of Wasting Time far surpasses her first solo album — and maybe even The Creepshow — revealing a more confident, organized and refined Blackwood.
