Sacrifice - The Ones I Condemn

Sonic Unyon

Reunions can be a drag; the detrimental results of bands striving to cash in on nostalgia or newfound interest. It deflates hopes and can even sully the band’s past, so when Toronto thrash-metal masters Sacrifice opted to break 16 years of silence with a new album, metallions held their breath in fear. We need not have worried.

Fifth album The Ones I Condemn shatters anticipation and surpasses the band’s previous bests. Expedient, vicious, dynamic and steely, tracks such as “Hiroshima,” “The Great Wall” and “Ultimate Power Corrupts” consolidate Sacrifice’s early, fiery passion with later technical mastery and brilliant songwriting. An onslaught of originality and prodigiousness united with aggression, this album is, quite simply, fucking relentless. Yes, Sacrifice may be old, but they're way more bitter and pointed than anyone could have expected, resulting in the best thrash metal offering of this decade.
