New Found Glory have come a long way since releasing an EP’s worth of kitschy punk movie theme covers in 2000. I guess if you spend enough time on the Warped Tour, you pick up a few things. In the last decade they have perfected their crunchy hooks and heartbreaking melodies to the point where they easily fill the gap left when Blink 182 broke up a few years back.
Incidentally, Mark Hoppus of Blink 182 produces NFG’s latest, Not Without a Fight, and it’s a perfect fit. The songs don’t have an ounce of fat, the saccharine vocal treatment is balanced with butchy guitar tones and the production is slick without being over-the-top. It’s instantly catchy, but even better, it stands up nicely to repeat listens without breaking a sweat.
