Nadja’s The Bungled & the Botched takes listeners on a journey from ambient to drone to electronica and back again. The solo project-turned-duo takes conventional ideas of ear-bashing guitar and turns them around, melding ethereal woodwinds and piano into the mix.
The title track, a near-30-minute aural adventure that first hit ears in 2008 with a 500-copy limited release, traverses from waves of delicate acoustics to slamming guitar echoes of that original melody. Light sounds of flute twitter on top, adding a balance to the dark sounds. Nadja also offers a re-recording of “Absorbed in You,” a piano-filled, static-driven romp that melds back into mashing guitar.
With this effort, it’s clear this Canadian group has found the sweet spot between doom, drone and ambience.
