Mi Ami - Watersports

Touch & Go

Much like the double drum kits and bassists of their previous band, Black Eyes, percussion is a primary element of the Mi Ami experience. This balls-out sound was tipped off by the title cut from their earlier African Rhythms EP, and on their full-length debut for Touch & Go, the trio has it nailed.

Keeping it short and sick, Mi Ami splatter sprawling post-post-punk, dub-inspired echo and singer Daniel Martin-McCormick’s high-pitched banshee rants over the album’s seven songs. Whether they’re slowing things down on the nine-minute “White Wife” or going bat-shit on speedier standouts “Echonoecho” and “New Guitar,” Watersports proves Mi Ami is the best new game in town.
