As the rest of the world wakes up to the notion that thrash metal is relevant again, Floridians Malevolent Creation shrug and continue blazing their longstanding trail of barbed, death metal-influenced fury. Hot, aggressive and embittered, the tracks on Doomsday X sound as vital and incensed as the band’s earliest efforts, way back when the term “rage against the machine” didn’t elicit correlation to rap-rock. Doomsday is a steamroller of an affair that chugs away with earth-flattening solos, pulverizing drumbeats and a vocal delivery comparable to the low idling of construction equipment. Yes, others may be jumping back on the bandwagon with their white hi-tops and super-tight black denim, but when they look up at the driver, they’ll see an unwavering set of malevolent creeps.
