Locks - Suicides Don't Commit Themselves

StaticStation

Building from a foundation of repetition, riffs, rhythm and bona fide grooves, Chicago weirdo-rock two-piece Locks has assembled a wicked full-length debut with one of the best album titles in recent memory. The band’s black wit doesn’t end there either, with wry one-liners like “The most honest people I know/ are all alone” delivered in classic blasé monotone over dark and driving backdrops.

Members Theo Katsaounis and Patrick Scott bring impressive pedigrees to this project with membership in the bands Joan of Arc and D. Rider, and live sound engineering for Liars, Subtle and El Guincho, respectively. Together, their blend of baritone guitar, frenetic drums and the occasional fretboard and electronic freak-out brings to mind everything from late ’70s and early ’80s post-punk to the ’90s offerings of Dischord and Touch and Go. If those touch-points appeal, grip this one with the quickness.
