Using only her voice and a warbly organ, Liz Collins offers catharsis in crisis.
With her debut release as Kisses of Fire (on CD and cassette!), former Calgarian Liz Collins joins the ranks of Beck, Bob Dylan and Joni Mitchell with a heart-rending collection of break-up tunes. However, the uniquely warbly organ tones that envelop her voice throughout this seven-song collection lends it a feeling of dream-sequence melancholy alongside the infinite sadness, bringing to mind the similarly blurred vibe of experimental pop act Black Moth Super Rainbow. Don’t make a molehill out of Only Mountains, ’cause it’s a serious stunner.
Kisses of Fire will be at The Marquee Room on Saturday, May 2, backed by her new band, The Provincial Archive.
