The Jolts - Haute Voltage

Haute Voltage Records

Everything about the sophomore release from Vancouver four-piece The Jolts, from the high-contrast black-and-white album art to the high-camp pseudonyms, screams rock ’n’ roll. Fleshing out a Ramones-style blitzkrieg with a few more chords and a few more solos, The Jolts deal in the kind of fist-pumping riffs and pedal-to-the-metal rhythms that are perfect for long drives or short attention spans. At their best, when they flat out steal from their influences (“DXM” is almost a chord-for-chord lift from The Hives), The Jolts are a lot of fun, even if they don’t always deliver. It’s a long way to the top if you wanna rock ’n’ roll, and if you give these guys some time, they might just make it.
