Hackneyed - Death Prevails

Nuclear Blast

• Young metalheads prove there’s vitality in the blood of innocents.

Widely considered the youngest metal band ever signed to a major recording contract, the juvenile delinquents behind Germany’s Hackneyed were barely 16 years old when they formed in 2007. It’s taken a year, but the intrepid quintet has released their debut offering, Death Prevails, courtesy of the nice folks at Nuclear Blast records. Anything but childish, the band’s nascent outing sees them applying their considerable talents to good effect.

Fuelled by their admiration for death metal idols Cannibal Corpse and Decapitated, the boys deliver straight-up death metal dirges peppered with industrialized synthesizers and other grindcore machinations. Revelling in the sheer glory of acid-throated growls, ballistic percussion and thunderous guitar emanations, Hackneyed make being hardcore seem exceedingly simple. Showing all due deference to those who have come before, these bratwurst-fed bairns slash and burn their way through nine equally amusing and impressive songs, proving that they are indeed the preordained inheritors of metaldom.
