Evergreen Terrace - Almost Home

Metal Blade

Maintaining the persistence and fortitude of their storied catalogue, Florida melodic hardcore outfit Evergreen Terrace refuses to compromise on its fifth full-length (and 10th anniversary effort), Almost Home.

The album is an endless stream of guttural attacks that effectively slide into catchy melodies, continuing the band’s tradition of abrasive music and infectious choruses. While its blend of borderline-emo vocals and Slayer-influenced rigging will probably turn off metal traditionalists, it’s solid enough to become a guilty pleasure among the arms-crossed crowd.

For the greenhorns who have grown up with amalgamations of cleanliness and crustiness, though, Almost Home will certainly appeal to their Attention Deficit Disorder: It provides plenty of rudimentary chugs that morph into pop-rock ditties. All in all, while Almost Home doesn’t bridge the generation gap in metal, it is still a powerful beast that will only serve to push Evergreen Terrace further into the modern metal spotlight.
