“Build a time machine and jerk off in it and send it back to Hitler. That’s how you do a dare,” declares comedian Eugene Mirman at the end of one of his jokes. The joy of a Mirman routine is watching how he moves from mundane, everyday topics to hyper-absurdity in the span of seconds (from a bit about a guy making up racial stereotypes: “I went on a date with a Jewish girl and she was more rude than a wolf-cat, an animal I made up and decided was rude”).
Still, God is Twelve-Year-Old Boy With Asperger's doesn’t live up to the standards set by Mirman’s previous two albums. Some of the more surreal bits don’t quite hit their mark, like a bear heckling Mirman during a bit about bears gentrifying Detroit or the overlong bit about poor customer service at an unnamed airline, which includes a three-act mini-play, a hate letter and a guerilla gag that all hit upon the same notes. Even with those dead spots, though, God is Twelve-Year-Old Boy with Asperger's upholds Mirman’s reputation as the master of the absurd.
