Though Does It Offend You, Yeah? claim You Have No Idea What You Are Getting Yourself Into, they’re way off the mark. Anyone with adequate reasoning capabilities and a basic knowledge of musical trends over the last couple years shouldn’t have much trouble looking at the band’s name and album title and deducing that what they’re getting themselves into is an obnoxious mess by a bunch of wankers with inflated egos.

It’s unfair to judge a book by its cover, but it works in YHNIWYAGYI’s case. The album is a series of increasingly grating indie-dance songs that desperately want to elbow their way next to the likes of Justice, Simian Mobile Disco and Digitalism through endless gimmickry. No song is more guilty than “Let’s Make Out,” which begins with the band members yelping the title, then segues into a farting synth-filled verse with Martin Quaintance’s karaoke disaster vocals squeaking all over the place. It then falls into an incredibly irritating chorus before the whole thing starts over again. The rest of the album is pretty much the same, except for the occasional vocoder and the odd attempt at ’80s power-balladry.

The whole thing is nothing but empty showiness and assholery run rampant. It’s awful, but not quite enough to truly offend. Despite the band’s best efforts, the only reaction they muster is annoyance.
