Oh sure, I know what you’re thinking. You’re thinking, “Depeche Mode — I loved them when I was 12.” Yeah, well here’s a little tidbit for you, smart-ass — they’re still good. In fact, they’re great, thank you very much. “Oooh, what have they even done in the past decade?” Plenty, asshole.
To you established fans out there, you’re going to like this album. Sure, there are a couple of iffy tracks (*cough* “Jezebel” *cough*) but on the whole, well done! “Sounds Of The Universe” delivers the synthy goodness and engaging lyrics that one would expect from Depeche Mode, regardless of what “era” you’re a fan of — think Violator meets Exciter with a little Playing The Angel thrown in for good measure. “Hole to Feed” sets the sexy tone with sexiness and good times. “Fragile Tension”? More like sexual tension. “I Could Corrupt You”? What the hell are you waiting for Gahan? I’m right bloody here.
