CFCF - Continent

Paper Bag

One of the most curious components of Continent, the debut long-player from Montreal DJ-electronic artist Mike Silver (a.k.a. CFCF), is that the songs all sound like you’ve heard them before. Mind you, that’s no slight, nor a way to say his music is unoriginal or uninteresting. Rather, Silver offers 12 ear-pleasing sound-washes ranging from cosmic Krautrock ambience to danceable Balearic house that could have been concocted anytime between the 1970s and today.

As it turns out, the only remake is “Big Love” from Fleetwood Mac’s perpetually underrated Tango in the Night. Like semi-forgotten soundtrack cuts from a favourite childhood film, or dancefloor fillers you heard in a drunken haze at the club, there’s an element of nostalgia here that’s hard to put your finger on. Why not just let it move your feet?
