Catfish Haven - Destroyer

Secretly Canadian

Crafted in the spirit of KISS’s Destroyer, ZZ Top's Eliminator and Lou Reed's Transformer, Destroyer is the third offering from Catfish Haven, the blues-infused Chicago-based indie rock trio named for the Missouri trailer park where front man George Hunter spent his youth. The group, which also includes bass player Miguel Castillo and drummer Ryan Farnham, presented its impressive debut EP, Please Come Back, on Secretly Canadian in January of 2006, and its first full-length, Tell Me, followed in September of that year.

Nostalgia for rock’s heyday reigns supreme as Destroyer cruises the highways of the past, roping in references to Steppenwolf, The Guess Who, CCR and more. The band doles out raw and ready melodies, all painted with soulful lyrics. Covering all the bases, the feel-good shaker “Set in Stone” sparkles with the infectious energy of the Doobie Brothers’ ubiquitous “Listen to the Music,” while the supreme confidence of the title track harkens back to the hot and taut genius of the George Baker Selection’s “Little Green Bag.”
