Boredoms - Super Roots 10

Avex Trax

Over the past decade, Japan’s premier experimental “rock” band has settled into an explosively tribal sound. You could never call them predictable, but these days, it would be fair to assume that everything Boredoms release will involve at least three drum kits (or 88, à la last year’s 88Boadrum event).

For the latest entry in their Super Roots series, Boredoms offer one original song entitled “Ant 10,” then pass it off to several remixers. The “Ant 10” template of manic percussion, a merry-go-round melody and Yamatsuka Eye’s vocal exclamations are only minutely tweaked in most tracks, making the majority of the album sound like one extended, mind-expanding raga. DJ Lindstrøm, however, puts his own stamp all over the standout track, somehow inventing the genre of “Ewok disco” in the process.
