BE BAD - Vision Correction

Divorce

Thank God for angry music. If it weren’t for bands seething with aggression, what would stop the disgruntled work-a-day lackey from telling off their boss and losing their job? What would allow the disaffected youth the release they would otherwise get from smashing a bus stop window? How would the hopeless romantic deal with their love woes?
Be Bad’s debut full-length, Vision Correction, is candy for the disgruntled soul. Chock full of jittery guitars, impassioned howls and explosive drums, the album is a cathartic wet dream. Fortunately, though, Be Bad isn’t content to be just another ferocious hardcore band. Underneath their pummeling immediacy, the band unveils unexpected layers that allow their music to transcend the surplus of likeminded Bad Brains-aping acts. While the band possesses all the necessary speed and fury for decent hardcore, it’s the Sonic Youth-inspired guitar noise on the title track and the eight-minute percussive freak-out of “Battledick” that truly sets Vision Correction apart from the seemingly endless string of bands trying to make a buck off their displeasure with the world.
The album does suffer from noticeably poor production and, even though it’s only 29 minutes long, getting through it is exhausting. Still, with Vision Correction, Be Bad have treated the world to an increasingly rare, musically challenging hardcore album that should keep those with a little anger to get off their chests happy for a long time.
