Since 2002, Asian Dub Foundation has made a reputation as a touring band. Punkara comes across as a touring product, meant to elicit bookings on the summer festival circuit. The energy and edginess of their 1998 debut may have dissipated, but ADF attempts to channel their emotions into a bhangra-punk hybrid that is likely to appeal to fans of The Refused. A special guest appearance by Iggy Pop on The Stooges’ classic "No Fun" ought to be enough to pique the interest of punk listeners, but one has to wonder if this is just lifestyle maintenance, borne out of economic rather than musical needs.
