Having developed a rapport during their run in the band Accident Scene, singer-guitarist Jeffrey Kalesnikoff and drummer Lewis Carter seem to have had no compunctions about once again blending their punk-pop sensibilities to form Acres of Lions. By now, the two are able to “make something out of nothing,” as the title track goes. Originally from the B.C. havens of Castlegar and Nelson, they have set about becoming the West Coast’s answer to Sloan. Bolstered by the chart success of their ear-catching new single, “Closer,” the now Victoria-based band is working their way east to Toronto, where they are slated to perform their awkward but heartfelt musical poetry at Canadian Music Week — and they’ll also be in Calgary this Saturday, March 21 at The Palomino.
