The name says it all

Delicious Thai is, um, delicious

Find It...

It’s a ballsy move to use the word “delicious” in the name of your restaurant, but at Delicious Thai, the gamble has paid off. The unassuming, friendly bistro located in Kensington offers a great selection of Thai favourites in a simple, tasteful space.

Stopping in after a movie at the Plaza, my boyfriend and I were warmly welcomed by Delicious Thai’s genial hosts. Taking our seats, we had a look around at the intimate space that seats approximately 25 people. Featuring beige and chocolate hued walls and assorted Thai accoutrements, the ambience was warm and comfortable.

We started our meal with the tom yum goong ($9.70), a spicy dose of hot and sour lemon grass soup, loaded with mushrooms, fresh tiger prawns, kaffir leaves, chili, galangal (similar to ginger), lime juice and topped with cilantro. Brimming with citrus flavour and vibrancy, the aromatic soup was delectable.

As we finished the soup, our mini-feast arrived at the table. We decided to try a little of everything from the menu, which primarily features soups, stir fries, noodle dishes and curries. When asked how hot we wanted our dishes, we went for it, choosing spicy.

Scooping a healthy dollop of sticky coconut rice on our plates, we began with the recommended stir-fried chicken with cashew nuts ($12.90). The dish featured red and green peppers, onion and “Delicious Thai’s red sauce.” With generous chunks of tender chicken and crunchy cashews, the entrée was sweet and tasty.

Bypassing our tendency to order pad Thai, we had the drunken noodles with beef ($12.60 — also available with pork, chicken, seafood or squid). Combining strips of lean beef with basil, garlic, chili, carrot, snow peas, broccoli and cauliflower, the dish was nice and spicy with a great array of fresh, healthy veggies.

For our curry selection we tried the gaeng pet, a spicy red curry with shrimp ($13.50 — also available with chicken, pork and beef). Even though we showed up just past 9 p.m., every dish was remarkably fresh and this curry was no exception. Combining red curry paste with coconut milk, peppers, snow peas and bamboo shoots, it had a soupy consistency and was deliciously hot. Topped with fresh basil leaves, the piquant dish was another highlight in a great meal.

The next time you have a bad day you should head over to Delicious Thai. With incredibly thoughtful service and heartwarming dishes, you’ll be in good spirits when you walk out the door.

Not the Take Ten spot. It's in the same courtyard at The Roasterie. Next to the pizza place. It's yummy, and they're so friendly. You should go. You should all go.
