Order: Mediterranea Mania ($5 per slice) and Spicy Number ($5.25 per slice). The Mediterranea slice is topped with spinach, artichoke hearts, fresh basil, garlic, mushrooms, roasted red peppers, feta and mozzarella cheese. The spicy slice is topped with Hammer’s spicy Italian sausage, green peppers, mushrooms, banana peppers and mozzarella cheese.
Crust: The pizza is made with a whole wheat crust and both slices were undercooked. There was no browning or charring at all on the bottom side of either slice. The Mediterranea slice was less cooked and the spicy one could have spent more time in the oven, too.
Sauce: What I can tell you is that it was red and bland.
Toppings: The vegetables on the Mediterranea pie should have been the highlight of the dish, but instead they were its downfall. The artichokes, spinach and mushrooms released moisture into the middle of the pie and resulted in a mushy interior that mirrored the soggy dough. If there was feta on the pizza (as advertised on the menu), I didn’t taste or see it. For the spicy slice, I liked the sausage and wished there was more of it. Unfortunately, the banana peppers were lifeless and offered no heat or taste. Both slices had a generous amount of mozza, but there was very little-to-no browning of the cheese.
Dining options: Eat in (food court), to go or limited delivery available.
Decision: On the plus side, the size of the slices are decent and for around $5 you get good value. There are interesting pizza choices on the menu and they seem to offer four or so different varieties at any given time. Most people should be able to find at least one option they would enjoy. Because I went to the pizzeria only once, I don’t know if the pizza is always as undercooked as the slices I was served. Heck, even the variance between the two slices I had gives me some hope. But on the day I visited, the pizza slices were simply a mess and I have no ambition to go back any time soon. Sorry Wicked Wedge, but you only get one shot at “the show” and you blew yours. This pizza joint earned a paltry two out of six slices.
