Stolo’s Pizza

Order: House special ($17.95). A 12-inch pizza with chicken, mushrooms, spinach, red onion, feta cheese and a blended creamy hot sauce.
Crust: A thick, dense dough that was lightly browned on the bottom. While much lighter than the majority of pizzas in this class, it certainly wasn’t undercooked.
Sauce: A creamy sauce infused with hot wing zest. It was almost orange instead of red, and added a tasty, salty tang.
Toppings: All of the toppings are buried under a crisp top of cheese, which is something that I really, truly enjoy. The decent-sized chunks of chicken were moist. There was loads of mushrooms and red onions, and the pockets of spinach were moist, but not soggy. The feta cheese was used in moderation, which I enjoyed. Combined with the hot sauce, too much feta might have been overly salty, but it wasn’t.
Dining options: Dine in or take out.
Decision: Without the addition of the hot sauce, I fear this might have been a very different review. I’m glad the sauce was part of the equation, otherwise I think the pizza wouldn’t have been so good. Everything really came together on this pie to create a complete dish with a bold flavour profile. Overall, Stolo’s makes decent bar pizzas. I’m giving the house special four out of six slices.
