Pizza Pursuit - 4th Street Pizza

Find It...

Order: House special ($15.95). A 10-inch pizza topped with pepperoni, salami, beef, mushrooms, ham, green peppers, tomatoes, black olives and onions.

Crust: It was slightly soggy towards the middle, yet solid enough to steadily hold the slice in one hand. The sogginess, I suspect, comes from the steam not having anywhere to escape during the high-temperature cooking.

Sauce: A thick sauce with bold flavours including plenty of oregano. There was enough spread on the bottom to enhance the pie without stealing the show.

Toppings: The cheese was generously loaded on and seeped right to the outer edges of the pizza. It was then cooked until everything had a pleasant, crispy texture. The order of the ingredients was key to the overall success of the taste, with the flatter meats piled on first, and then the veggies, with the beef topping being secured by the cheese topping.

Dining options: Delivery or takeout.

Decision: Despite being fairly meat-centric, I didn't find the pizza to be overly heavy or greasy. The veggies added a crunchy texture and each ingredient was used in moderation, making for a more balanced pizza than just spotlighting any particular topping. All of the ingredients were of great quality, and overall I enjoyed it. However, I didn't get anything that I haven't seen before. This one gets four out of six slices.

Sogginess is caused by too many watery vegetables, and/or the pizza was made too slowly. If the sauce is left on too long then that will add too much moisture to the dough.
