Burger Hunt - Giant Hamburgers & Fish & Chips

Burger: Single giant burger ($3.99). A toasted sesame seed bun, ketchup, mayo, raw onion rings, tomato, pickles, mustard, beef patty and shredded lettuce.

Sides: Fries, onion rings, chili cheese fries, poutine, coleslaw and sweet potato fries.

Atmosphere: I think they're going for a diner-y feel. There are pics of giant hamburgers (that look nothing like what they actually serve) on the walls and windows. There were also two pumpkins sitting in one window, which concerned me, as we're now past the midway point of April.

Menu: Burgers, fish and chips. Other options include hot dogs, donairs and prime rib burgers. The bulgogi burger sounded good, as did a pineapple-topped option. There are more than 10 types of milkshakes available.

Decision: This one was a complete bust. First off, the burger was not “giant.” When naming a burger joint and using the word giant in your name, you invoke a mental image that needs to be met (Google "giant hamburger" as an image search if you're not sure what I mean). Beyond that, it wasn't even a fresh patty, and it was dwarfed by both the bun and produce. An abundance of raw onions is about all that stands out in my memory — and not in a good way. Unless there are some drastic changes to the menu, I'm willing to hit up almost any of the big box fast-food joints before heading back to Giant Hamburger again.

Next Up: AKA Winebar.
