Burger: Broken City burger (regular, $12). An AAA lean ground beef patty formed in-house and topped with garlic mushrooms, cheddar cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, onion and chipotle mayo.

Sides: Choice of lemon pepper or sweet potato fries, Caesar or house salad, vegan chili or soup of the day.

Atmosphere: A dirty bar (in a good way) that doesn't feel sketchy. It's the type of place where you'll have some of the best nights you'll never remember. I'm also a fan of its rooftop patio.

Menu: It's fairly narrow in scope, with chicken wings (eight types), lemon pepper chicken strips, nachos, a three-dip plate, red beans and rice, two types of salads and a few different wraps and sandwiches. Ingredients are sourced locally when possible.

Decision: Dear Calgary, let's try and keep this streak going, OK? I've had two good burgers in as many weeks and would like that to continue.

The garlic mushrooms on top of the patty were anchored below the melted cheese — a good strategy to keep high-piled burgers together. The plain bun was a bit denser than I prefer and the condiments were tucked under the patty. I like it on top.

At first glance, I admit I was a little concerned. After a few bites, however, the stress abated. The patty was wonderfully grilled with lots of char, adding extra flavour to an already tasty chunk of meat. Truth be told, I ate the whole thing way too fast, burning the roof of my mouth. I regret nothing.
