Bill Bailey's Sports Bar & Grill
8330 Macleod Trail South
Burger: AAA beef burger ($13). A toasted onion and poppy seed bun, topped with a beef patty, melted provolone cheese, two slices of dill pickle, tomato, lettuce and chipotle mayo.
Sides: Choice of soup, salad, fries or yam fries.
Atmosphere: A roomy sports pub with more TVs on the walls than sports jerseys. And there are a lot of jerseys.
Menu: The bulk of the menu is standard pub fare, but there are also a few surprises such as Asian pork dumplings and seared duck breast. There is also shrimp, lamb, chicken and two vegetarian burgers available.
Decision: Generally speaking, this was a solid burger. The patty was made in-house and was moist and well-seasoned. The poppy seed and onion bun was something new, and a good call. The produce was fresh and the pickles were cut thick, adding an enjoyable textural crunch.
For the second time in as many weeks, the sauce was barely that, unfortunately contributing little-to-no flavour to the burger. I just realized that I haven't mentioned the provolone. I guess it didn't add a lot either.
Next Up: The Oak Room at the Fairmont Palliser, 113 9th Ave. S.W.
