Burger: Flame-broiled burger ($9.25). The patty's made in-house from AAA beef and served on a toasted plain bun topped with tomatoes and romaine lettuce. A mayo-based house sauce is spread on both sides of the bun and pickles are tucked underneath the patty.

Sides: Coleslaw and your choice of daily soup, fries or salad.

Atmosphere: A Canadian honky-tonk bar featuring live music every night. The walls pay tribute to the likes of Hank Williams, Elvis and Buddy Guy.

Menu: The food fits the theme. Described as "Southern U.S. inspired dishes that parallel the movement of the blues, jazz and roots rock scenes; yet staying true to our Canadian culinary roots." Featured items include gumbo, pulled pork egg rolls, chile-lime rubbed dry ribs, po’ boys, cornmeal crusted soft-shelled crab and jambalaya.

Decision: Despite being incognito, two staff members raved about the burgers while I was there, creating the expectation that this would be a great burger. I'm happy to say that for the most part, it was. I had the basic burger — and enjoyed it — but I think it could be improved by adding any of the additional options: hot peppers, cheese, bacon or mushrooms. The house sauce left no lasting impression, even when sampled on its own. Maybe it was just a bad batch, but on my visit, it was weak sauce.

The patty was ample — my waitress said she'd never seen anyone order a double — and the burger as a whole had a real backyard feel to it. Separating the pickles from the tomatoes and lettuce was unique, creating a different flavour compared to other burgers.
