At the Sirocco Golf Club, Spruce Meadows Way and Rural Road Nine S.E.
Burger: Sirocco Angus beef burger ($15). A sesame seed bun spread with a mayo-based burger sauce, loaded with an Angus patty, crispy onion strings, a few strips of bacon and your choice of cheese (cheddar, provolone or blue).
Sides: Choice of soup, fries or salad. I upgraded to poutine for an extra $4.
Atmosphere: With one of the best views in town — well, technically just outside of town — both Siraia Restaurant and Ibby's Lounge overlook the Sirocco golf course and the foothills. The lounge is comfortable, but it can’t compete with the outside scenery.
Menu: Ibby's Lounge recently had a four-day burger promotion featuring lamb, barbecue chicken, salmon and portobello mushroom burgers. The rest of the menu features typical snacks and appetizers, while the adjoining Siraia restaurant is decidedly more upscale.
Decision: The burger smelled great and there is no doubt it was made fresh. I found the bun was smaller in circumference than most, a ploy sometimes used to beef up a skimpy cut of meat. Fortunately that wasn’t the case here. A garlic pickle came speared atop my bun, which appears to be a trend of late.
This burger could have benefitted from some produce. The crispy onion strings added crunch, and the sauce had a pleasant tang to it, but some lettuce and tomato would have taken this burger to a much higher level. I hope that, come golf season, when these burgers officially hit Ibby's menu, they've been tweaked ever-so-slightly.
