Flatiron Restaurant and Bar
2493 27 Ave N.E.
Burger: Flatiron AAA beef burger ($12.49). A hand-formed seven-ounce beef patty with house spices served on a fresh bun with roasted onion mayo, lettuce, tomatoes, dill pickle and an onion ring speared to the outside. You can add mushrooms and aged white cheddar or bacon and cheddar for a total of $14.99.
Sides: Fries, soup or salad.
Atmosphere: Greeted by a glowing red bar and lounge area, the balance of the room is decked out in greys and blacks with red accents. An insanely long, two-sided fireplace divides the lounge and the restaurant.
Menu: The restaurant is a calculated step up from places such as Earls or Milestones, but it’s not high-end. There's enough variety to appease most.
Decision: Hand-made patties are the way to go. Period. I can't say it enough times. Flatiron's adherence to this mantra has paid off. The seven-ounce patty is an ample platform on which to build the rest of the burger. The roasted garlic mayo has a serious bite —perhaps too much so for some — that I enjoyed. The onions are sweet and all the produce is fresh. I tossed around the idea of adding the onion ring to the burger, but it already had enough height. This was a satisfying burger, one I would order again.
Next Up: Ibby’s Lounge at the Sirocco Golf Club, Spruce Meadows Way and Rural Road Nine.
