Dairy Lane Café
319 19 St. N.W.
Burger: Dairy Lane burger ($13.25). A half-pound Alberta beef patty served on a toasted Kaiser, topped with bacon, mushrooms, cheddar cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, onions, mustard and mayo.
Sides: Choice of soup, salad or home-cut fries.
Atmosphere: Dairy Lane seats about 20 and does so almost perpetually. I can't remember a visit when I haven't had to wait for a seat, a testament to its popularity.
Menu: They're only open for breakfast and lunch. There are two soups, four salads, five burgers and seven other sandwich and wrap options on the lunch menu. Breakfast is also simple, with about 12 total options. The pork burger sounded great, but this is an adventure about beef burgers, so I'll have to head back to try that another time.
Decision: Truth be told, I love breakfast with all my heart. Maybe even more than burgers. So while I was familiar with Dairy Lane's offerings, I had never ventured past the breakfast.
This was a really good burger and will complicate future trips to Dairy Lane. The cheese was melted onto a fair-sized patty and anchored the mushrooms and bacon in place. The produce was fresh and chilled. The kaiser was fluffy without being weak, completing a great-tasting burger.
Next up: Parkerhouse Grill & Wine Bar, 131 6 Ave. S.W.

I also quite like their veggie burger - is it blasphemous to admit that in a comment on a column about all beef burgers?
