Burger: Asiago bacon melt burger ($7.79) — a toasted sesame seed kaiser bun topped with a beef patty, house Marché sauce, Asiago cheese, grilled pancetta, red onions, tomato, crisp lettuce and more Marché sauce.
Sides: Potatoes and vegetables are included with the burger. While the full-meal deal varies from day to day, the selections are top-notch, such as mixed green beans, red peppers and sliced almonds with mashed potatoes, as well as scalloped potatoes and steamed carrots.
Atmosphere: Looking like outdoor European markets, Sunterra outlets (seven in Calgary and three in Edmonton) offer quick, decent food at reasonable prices.
Menu: Sunterra raises its own pork and beef, allowing exceptional quality control of the product. Crepes, daily "Big Pan" specials, sandwiches and prepared dinners — Sunterra offers tons of options for both dine-in and take-away.
Decision: This was a good burger and Sunterra wasn't even on my list. With a burger craving, I stumbled upon it recently and was pleasantly surprised. The patty was lean, but not dry, and I liked the Asiago cheese. The addition of grilled pancetta was great, but I'm not convinced that fancy bacon will ever beat real bacon. The Marché sauce seemed mayo-based, and while I could see other ingredients, they didn’t have much impact. The produce was good and fresh and the sides were delicious. Other places would probably try to charge $15 or more for this burger. For less than $8, I will eat this one again.
