Burger: Double cheeseburger ($8): Two (more than generous) Alberta beef patties on a plain toasted bun topped with mustard, relish, diced onions and two slices of cheese.
Sides: Fries, onion rings or poutine.
Atmosphere: A converted bus in the industrial area of 46th Ave., not far from Blackfoot Trail. There are a few picnic tables, but most people either get their food to go or eat in their vehicles.
Menu: Burger, cheeseburger, bacon cheeseburger, double burger, double cheeseburger, smokies, hot dogs, BLTs, milkshakes and breakfast sandwiches. That’s it.
Decision: I’m elated that I was finally able to make the trek down to the infamous Burger Bus. Upon ordering I was asked if I’d ever had a Rocky’s double before. “They’re big,” I was forewarned, and they weren’t kidding.
As I unwrapped my no-frills, meat-focused slab of awesome, I couldn’t wait to try the melty, gooey, beefy sandwich. Admittedly, the double may be too much meat for some, but I really, really liked this burger. Once again, simplicity comes through, creating an amazing burger experience. This was the 25th burger I’ve eaten on this hunt and while I haven’t compiled a formal list yet, Rocky’s, without a doubt, lands somewhere in the Top 5.
Next up: Saltlik Steakhouse, 101 Eighth Ave. S.W.
