Burger: Cheeseburger with Fries ($6.50). A hand-formed, real meat patty topped with cheddar cheese. Fresh lettuce, tomatoes, onions and pickle slices are served on the side. Ketchup and HP sauce were also offered, but I declined.
Sides: Fries. That’s all that was on the menu and it didn’t seem like the type of place to bother asking about alternatives.
Atmosphere: Vintage bucket chairs are packed about tiny round tables and I doubt the room has been renovated in 20 years or more. Oddly enough, it works.
Menu: The cheeseburger is only available on the lounge side of Reef ‘N Beef. The entire lounge menu beyond the burger consists of: Caesar salad, beef dip, steak sandwich, hot roast beef, chicken fingers, shrimp in a basket and a vegetable-and-cheese plate.
Decision: I bet you’re expecting a poor review, right? Well, you’re wrong. This turned out to be the best surprise so far. I didn’t even know of this place, but thankfully a loyal Burger Hunt reader, Heather, tipped me off. The burger was beautiful in its simplicity and I debated whether or not to order a second one before opting out.
As far as bang for your buck, I’d say this is as good as it gets. Going in I had no idea what to expect. In the end, I got a decent-sized burger that was made from quality ingredients and came served in a unique and hospitable environment. Woo!
