Burger: The Super B.I.G. Burger ($7.29), a spiced 1/2 lb. burger topped with lettuce, tomato, pickles, fried onions and bacon.
Sides: Fries, onion rings, curly spicy fries, poutine, super poutine (with fried onions and bacon), garlic toast, garden or Caesar salad.
Atmosphere: I visited the Macleod Trail l S.W. location, which really doesn’t have much personality. The plain room has left no lasting impression. Fine dining is not what Burger Inn strives to be and there’s not a darn thing wrong with that.
Menu: Burger Inn is well-known for its non-beef burger options. The specialty burger section of the menu features options like pork, turkey, lamb, ostrich, elk, buffalo, wild salmon, wild boar, harvest gold (vegetarian) and even a free-range beef burger.
Decision: Despite its reputation of serving up crowd-pleasing burgers, I felt a little let down by the Super B.I.G. The patties were thinner than I like, thereby messing up the meat-to-bun ratio. The option of white or brown buns is nice, but in retrospect, I should have tried the free range beef burger. The non-meat ingredients are fresh and everything is cooked-to-order and ready within minutes.
Overall, this wasn’t a bad burger. It’s just that I had higher hopes for a place with “burger” in its name. With the amount of non-beef burger options available, Burger Inn has carved themselves a good niche, offering up some intriguing options at reasonable prices.
Next up: The hunt continues at Reef n’ Beef, 3735 Rundlehorn Dr. N.E.
