Fast Forward Weekly readers have once again voted for the Best of Calgary’s food joint, clothing store, DJ night, vinyl shop and hundreds more. And to balance it off, readers weighed in on some of the city’s worst — worst C-train stop and construction zone.

There are some familiar faces and spots — Chad Saunders (favourite radio personality) and The Ship & Anchor (sexiest clientele) — and then there’s the eye-openers: skinny jeans (worst new trend) and Mayor Dave Bronconnier (hardest working Calgarian and best local villain).

I don't know. what we do know is that people will more likely choose from a list of "options provided" rather than think beyond them. sure its intended as a light and fun thing and it is this , but to have any real usefulness, and to be really informative, there should be some basic information , like who chose the options, how were they chosen, how many votes went to each 1,2,3, what came in as(say) 4, 5, and 6 for each category ... this would be far more interesting information in my opinion. but kudos for having a go.

Brushy, good suggestion about printing number/percentage of votes. I've struggled with that, and logistically it's nearly impossible to do in the amount of time we have, but I'll think about it for next year.

As an advocate for inner-city living, I would say who cares if voters are concentrated downtown? Maybe thats because that is where the best places are, It's not like it's where all the people live (seeing how only 33,000 of 1 million live downtown and the beltline area). It's not that people are afraid of the 'ghetto', it's that they appreciate places that are great AND not in the ghetto.

While I'm at it, why not make things more specific, and therefore more interesting and informative. I always find myself asking "best of" how, or in what context? Usually "most well known", or "most frequented" (or "the only ones I can think of") is the better description. So, like you do in the bar/restaurant categories, how about things like "best pedicure under $50.00", or "wine shop with the best selection", and "Liquor store with the best deals"? Best band... how about "sexiest band", or "best band to see on a first date", or "surliest band"? Now THAT would be fun, wouldn't it?
I agree that this is a good introduction to what's available (note I said "what's available", not "best of", do you really want the new Vancouver ex-pat Calgary hater to go to Oriental Pheonix for their first taste of Vietnamese, thinking that's the best we have to offer?) in the 'hood for newcomers, but for the rest of us - for me - this has become excruciating. Switch it up somehow next year man!

lol - I lived in Calgary for years and what I do know it is easy to be the "best of" in a city that has hardly anything on offer - I mean come on - there are like three gay bars in the whole city and maybe 4 day spas 1 art gallery no alt theatre rep and goodness me absolutely no Mink Mile for shopping - yes you have a fancy Holt Renfrew but seriously Calgary - you are not really a big city - leave accolades for cities that have something on offer
