I go walking

Appropriately enough for the tourist-infested town of Banff, artist Janet Cardiff brings her Forest Walk to the Walter Phillips Gallery at The Banff Centre.

Originally conceived at the centre as she went out for a walk, these audio tours guide the listener with directions, but also include stories and sounds. The recorded CD, combined with the natural sounds and sights of the national park, create a unique guided experience.

Ask the gallery assistant to experience Forest Walk until September 13.

Lookout

Everyone’s talking about the floating orbs in the Bow River, but what about the strange lookouts on the banks?

José Luis Torres wraps up his residency in Truck Contemporary Art in Calgary’s CAMPER on Friday, with a reception on St. Patrick’s Island. His work, The Observatory, consists of three installation platforms placed along the Bow River. The intention is to create a different perspective on our natural environment, creating short-term, unique views.

The platforms are located in Shouldice Park, Edworthy Park and on St. Patrick’s Island until August 20.
