The dog days of summer are winding down but there is no shortage of arts and cultural things in and around the city.

You may have missed the opening last week but Haight Gallery is exhibiting Julien Fournier’s solo work of contemporary portraits until Saturday, September 10. Haight Gallery is an artist-run gallery so be sure to support their great work. Another great artist-run gallery you should check out is the Untitled Arts Society, which is running the exhibition Looks Like Love/I Let Him Touch Me by Marbella Anne Carlos, which runs until Friday, September 2. The show features two performance-based works presenting a personal exploration into the illusion of romantic love and its impact.

If you’ve been lamenting the fact that Shakespeare in the Park (SITP) didn’t run this summer then you’ll be happy to hear that the event’s former artistic director Martin Fishman new project (Calgary Public Theatre) received funding and will be premiering Shakespeare’s in Love on Monday, August 29 and running until Saturday, September 3. The best part? The show takes up residence at SITP’s former site at Prince’s Island Park. There will be two performances each day at noon and at 7 p.m.

Rosebud Theatre, well known for its theatre productions, is hosting its sixth annual Fifteen Minutes of Fame Music Festival on Sunday, September 4. The event features a wide array of musical talents and artistic expression. If you’re looking to get out of town for the day, Rosebud is nestled just 100 kilometres northeast of the city.

Morpheus Theatre is kicking off its season on Friday, September 9 with the Neil Simon original comedy, The Odd Couple. Oscar and Felix become roommates and discover its like mixing oil and water, which just doesn’t do. Of course, it’s funny to watch though.

If you don’t want to wait to get out in the sun, there’s always the 2011 Expo Latino festival on August 26, 27 and 28 so get on your dancing shoes and head down to Prince’s Island Park for some fun in the sun.
