THE ACTUAL
In Stitches
Soft Drive/ New West Records

· Way better than it has any right to be.

It’s one thing when you have a four-piece pop-punk band that does hook-heavy faux angst, but it’s another when Velvet Revolver front man Scott Weiland produces their debut. He hand-picked L.A. band The Actual to open for his glam rock super group, and that alone is probably enough to make even the most open-minded Warped Tour fan turn tail. Hold on. In Stitches is certainly over-produced and trying way too hard to be clever, but that doesn’t change the fact that this paint-by-numbers post-emo is catchy as hell. With vocals reminiscent of a gutsier Ben Lee and music that mixes maximum riffage with ’80s new wave and a MySpace attention span, The Actual deliver 13 catchy, if totally disposable, rockers.
