Routes for late-night munching
It is 2:16 a.m. and you have made your way out of your favourite watering hole and need food to fend off tomorrow’s hangover. Clearly, you will need something within manageable stumbling distance. For your drunken convenience, here are four perfect late night pairings of hot downtown nightspots and late-night eateries. Each venue/restaurant combo are within one kilometre of each other.

Palomino (109 7 Avenue S.W.) to U & Me (223 Centre Street S.W.)

Just finished seeing an alt-country act and drinking some local beer? Find yourself in need of some savoury dumplings? Hop, skip and jump your way to U & Me (open until 4 a.m.) in Chinatown, a Calgary late-night fave for noodles, fortunes and more.

Distance – 0.51 km.

A Bar Named Sue (1410 4 Street S.W.) to Gerry’s (1201 5 Street S.W.)

What better way to cap off a night of honky tonkin’ than with a plate of wakey wakey eggs n’ bakey? From endless breakfast to pastas and desserts, there is no time limit on your late night stay at Gerry’s (open 24 hours).

Distance – 0.61 km.

MING (520 17 Avenue S.W.) to Tubby Dog (1022 17 Avenue S.W.)

Just finished a Buddha (cocktail) and find yourself longing for a Sumo? Work your way up the avenue to Tubby Dog (times vary, but it’s usually open well past 3 a.m.) late-night take-out window. The hot dog crew will hook you up with your wasabi-adorned dog in a flash!

Distance – 0.90 km.

Broken City (613 11 Avenue S.W.) to Stardust Pizza (602 11 Avenue S.W.)

Come on down from Broken City’s rooftop patio and sate yourself with a slice of $2 veggie at Stardust (open until, ugh… late?). Sprinkle on some Parmesan and haul your ass home. ’Nuff said.

Distance – MapQuest gets it wrong at .53 km; it is right across the street.
