AN ANGLE
The Truth is That You Are Alive
Drive-thru Records

· Sacramento five-piece boosts the rep of their label.

Drive-thru Records is usually a clearing-house for bargain basement pop punk, which is why An Angle is such a pleasant surprise. Front man Kris Anaya is often compared to Bright Eyes brain trust Connor Oberst (although that’s probably due to his slight physical presence). On The Truth is That You Are Alive, An Angle’s third full-length, Anaya sounds more like a young Jeff Tweedy. In fact, the whole disc bears more than a passing resemblance to Wilco’s poppier material, and it’s a good thing. Blending acoustic and electric guitars, the album hints at roots rock, but brings an all-ages intensity to the proceedings. Between the wealth of melody, the bold instrumentation and boisterous delivery, An Angle have hit their stride.
