PAUL REDDICK

· Not so well-known harmonica player from Toronto gets his own best-of package.
Unfortunately, whoever sequenced the song order for this CD made the mistake of putting the three most generic blues numbers at the start of the disc to suck in fans of that sort of thing. Please, make it to the fourth track. Paul Reddick is cool. He "gets" the blues and does cool shit with it. Reddick released a solo disc in 2004 called Villanelle. It stood out from most blues recordings with its sweet acoustic tracks and trance-inducing interpretations of Chicago blues, but it was criminally overlooked. So his record company puts out a best-of package that features a good chunk of Villanelle mixed in with tunes from his former band the Sidemen, more of a barroom blues band, and a couple of tracks recorded with The Rhythm and Truth Brass Band. If you need a reference point, lets say the Reddick collection is Los Lobos-eque. Check it out if you missed Villanelle.
