Cheap shots – theatre critic out of joint
Re: "Pain in the ass," by Jeff Kubik, Theatre, May 31-June 6, 2007.

Thank you, Jeff Kubik, for your enlightening preview of THEATREboom’s upcoming production of Wedgie. I, too, am looking forward to the latest remount of the show and if it’s anywhere near as good as its last Calgary incarnation was, it should be a treat.

I do wonder, though, why you choose to continue to shirk journalistic integrity and responsibility by taking cheap shots at another theatrical production through this article. While it was clear to readers that you were not a fan of Downstage’s premiere of Sharon Pollock’s Man Out of Joint, it is unclear to this reader why you still have enough bile left over to spill it out into your preview of a completely unrelated production. I can hardly wait for the actual review of Wedgie when you can really let your negative opinions on Man Out of Joint fly.

I thank Sharon Pollock and Simon Mallett for tackling important issues through a work of raw power and rage, and I thank THEATREboom for going about it in an entirely different way. Most people are open enough to appreciate both approaches and not celebrate one with the condemnation of the other.
