BEST OF CALGARY

Old country, new style

If you’re looking for traditional Italian pie in a unique, modern setting, look no further than Pulcinella’s in Kensington. One of my Calgary faves, this illuminated pizzeria mixes premium ingredients with a lively social atmosphere suitable for any occasion — from group outings to leisurely dates. Remarkably, two can dine with wine for under $50 here, something pretty unheard of these days.

Take me out

Man oh man, am I a junkie for Inglewood Pizza. I get my fix nearly every week from this delicious take-out and delivery joint on 9 Avenue S.E. The sauce is fantastic, the crust isn’t too thick and the prices are just right. I would be extra happy if they got a computer system so I didn’t have to repeat my address with each delivery order, but other than that I absolutely love Inglewood za. That, and their Balkan delivery guy rocks.

Always a winner

No Calgary best-of pizza list would be complete without reigning slice champ Wicked Wedge. Getting a late-night slice from the 17 Avenue S.W. hotspot is always satisfying. If you want to forgo the experience of eating alongside Calgary’s booze zombies on weekend nights, visit the Wedge during the day and enjoy people-watching on the bench out front. With primo ingredients and inventive pies, Wicked Wedge consistently keeps us coming back for more.
