The truth about music critics is that it’s much easier to shred that chump from Canadian Idol or complain about teen-pop-diva overload than it is to work out a review for a good, but ultimately average record.

Take Joseph Arthur & the Lonely Astronauts. I’ve been listening to Let’s Just Be for a month now and I can’t seem to hammer one out. There are some great twangy moments reminiscent of Beck’s Mellow Gold, some summertime rockers that sound like Wilco B-sides and some chug-heavy drug anthems that get your head nodding along in easy approval. The whole album is loaded heavy with shimmy, swagger and shaker and still, all I can muster up is:
