· Feel-good indie rock from out of the black metal capital of the world.
Norway stands at the gaping hole in the earths crust that leads directly to hell. The country, famous for its black metal Inferno Festival that has hosted bands like Opeth, Soilwork and Children of Bodom might have something to offer those who arent ready to sell their souls to Satan quite yet. Datarock, of Bergen, Norway, consists of Fredrik Saroea and Ketil Mosnes. The band creates a hybrid of genres by mixing indie-rock, electronica and pop, and its influences include Devo and the Talking Heads. The result a light, feel-good sound laced with remnants of the late 70s and early 80s new wave pop.
Datarock Datarock contains 13 tracks and three music videos. "Computer Camp Love," a track on the album, which was also the title track of a previous EP, makes a play on both 80s flick Revenge of the Nerds, and the musical Grease. Saroea sings of a girl he met at computer camp, and the background vocals chant "Tell me more." The video, also on the album, follows the nerds at computer camp while featuring clips of a kid dancing to his Walkman in an Adidas track suit. The album, while not jaw-dropping, offers a campy, fresh sound as it weaves music of the past to create something new.
