MAD CADDIES
Keep it Going
Fat Wreck Chords

· Ska – the cockroach of punk.

There’s a pop culture gag about how the only things capable of surviving a nuclear war would be cockroaches and Keith Richards. It’s about time that we added ska/punk to the list. Despite going through major waves of resurgence and virtual death, this white-boy version of reggae continues to thrive, as Mad Caddies’s latest effort Keep it Going justly proves. An incredibly specialized taste, the band unites upbeat punk rock delivery with a raging horn section and Sublime-esque groove. Still, no matter one’s tastes it’s impossible not to bop along with the bright atmosphere of "Backyard," a setting only enhanced with tunes such as "The Dirge," "Without You" and "Coyote." This record is a must for spins during summertime fun. The band is clearly embracing its more casual roots, allowing itself to plug along at an almost Bob Marley rate. It is decidedly more fresh and far more comfortable than the band’s previous attempts at retrofitting disparate scenes.
