DAGGERMOUTH
Turf Wars
Smallman Records

· This Vancouver five-piece recorded its sophomore album at the Hive.

Bouncing back from one of the worst album covers of this or any year, Daggermouth proves its worth with a handful of sturdy, workman-like punk tracks. Lighter and more streamlined than many of its Smallman labelmates, Daggermouth still has a few surprises. Piled high with gang yelps, double-time drums and the requisite profanity, Turf Wars is gruff and hooky, never slowing down for a moment. Better still, there isn’t a song that breaks the three-minute mark. Titles like "Hawt Lixx" and "Frisky Business" might convince you Daggermouth is just gimmicky guitar slingers, but the epic pick slides, single-string guitar solos and breakneck pace show a band that ably lives up to the title of album closer "You Do This As a Fad, We Do This As a Lifestyle."
