· Paint-by-numbers pop band has little to offer other than faux-punk hairdos.
If you find yourself owning every album by Good Charlotte, Not By Choice, Hedley, Simple Plan etc. and wishing to hear one more band that sounds exactly the same, theres good news. Social Code follows the same paint-by-numbers pop formula that has been proven to catapult any gang of boys with faux-punk hairdos to the top of every 14-year-old girls playlist.
Dont be fooled by the tattoos and stubble this foursome has all the rock cred of the latest issue of Tiger Beat. Every track is geared strictly towards top 40 radio play and the kind of wholesome rock that will have moms accompanying their daughters to all-ages shows.
There is nothing wrong with aiming an album down the path of success; the problem occurs when creativity takes a back seat. This self-titled debut is completely devoid of anything even bordering on an original sound or idea. Generic guitars, the kind of obvious lyrics that you can sing along with on the first listen and standard verse-chorus-verse blandness fill every corner of this redundant album.
